When the moon hits your eye

"That's amore" is not actually a song about pizza, believe it or not.  For June, I worked on a (duh) pizza theme.  This is also the piece I realized I need to be more confident about drawing backgrounds.  I freaked out quite a lot and put off drawing those rafters and garlic strings.  Something to work on in the new year.

The Line: It Is A Bad Pun

That there is Sand Witch Doctor, an unholy amalgam of Dr. Strange, A Surfer Dude, and some mishmash of Tiki/Voodoo/African stereotypes.  Up in the front, that is the Burrito Bandito and Sally Slider (heir to the White Castle fortune).  This is without a doubt the most gonzo art I've done recently, and I had to hide my artistic license while doing it, lest it burst into flame.

It's Breakfast Time

Originally May was going to be brunch month, but I couldn't get any recipes specifically for brunch, so it just became a breakfast of kings, complete with a French roast Ethiopian blend and mimosas.

Wok-Style

This is the first piece I did for the calendar, and one of my favorites (because I didn't have to do backgrounds).  If I would change anything, I'd make the vegetables flying around in not quite so specific a shape.

Chef's Choice

March is the month when Winter turns to Spring, and in comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, or vice versa, and also March is St. Patrick's day.  Rather than do something as obvious as Irish food, and since my idea of drink recipes fell through, I turned to potatoes.  Who doesn't love potatoes?

Even over a box o' caviar.

The Art of Fine Cuisine

For February, everyone (who has a honey) will be celebrating Valentine's day and being all mushy and treating their snuggle-muffin to fancy dinners and disasterous amounts of chocolate.  I forgot about chocolate, but not the fine cuisine.  I don't know what she's made here, but I do know that fancy food is tall food.  Soup isn't fancy unless you can arrange it vertically.

Too Many Cooks

For Christmas this year, I made an illustrated calendar.  The theme: food, and each month featured a different, seasonally appropriate chef and recipe.

For January, soup.   Too Many Cooks Spoil It.

The Line vs. The World

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World and The World won
I added a bit of Kurt Russell to the guy, because who doesn't  like Kurt Russell?

"Toronto is ashes. Kim, Stephen, Knives, Young Neil, Wallace, Envy...Ramona. All dead. Only one man is left to fight the mutated ravaging hordes that have over-run Canada. In the darkest of winters, Scott Pilgrim fights EVERYTHING."

The Line: It...it CAN'T be!

For The Line: It Is Drawn, my take on the classic Stan Lee moment in he origin of Spider-Man when he realizes he really fwowed up.

The main thing I added was the bag of ill-gotten money in the last panel, given that it's greed and subsequent arrogance that kept Peter Parker from stopping that robber in the first place.

So in reality, the moral of the story is less "with great power comes great responsibility" which doesn't really apply to most people who don't have great power, and more, "Don't wait until someone shoots your uncle to decide to be a good person."  Everyone can relate to that.

Except the people who don't have an uncle.  Those people are lost to us.

New Website Up!

I have my new redesigned website up!  There's still a bug or two left to fiddle with, but everything important that one might notice if they were to peruse it is up and fully operational!

School-Picking, Arlington-Style

These are two pieces I did for the most recent Arlington magazine, on the trials, tribulations, and tips of picking a school for your youngster.
